WHAT MAKES THIS TRAIL UNIQUE?
The Black Forest Trail is known as one of the toughest trails in the state, but it sure rewards those who brave its steep ascents and descents! Few other trails in Pennsylvania offer beautiful vistas and pristine camping spots as liberally as the BFT. In addition, the trail's abundance of water access, waterfalls, wildlife and virgin forest make this a popular destination for avid outdoors folk to explore any time of year. Many parking lots and connector trails make it possible to hike this trail in whatever way fits your style.

BEST TIME TO HIKE: Mid-October for best fall foliage.

BLACK FOREST MINI OVERNIGHT HIKE: 6 MILES TOTAL
Day 1
Park your car along Naval Run Road.
Hike approx. 4 miles to camp beside Callahan Run, near the intersection of the BFT, Big Trail, and Callahan Run Trail.
Day 2
Hike approx. 2 miles to your car via Callahan Run Trail and Pine Trail.
